Cyrus Clay Carpenter came to Iowa in 1854 and settled in Fort Dodge. There he was a teacher, surveyor and lawyer. He served in the first legislature elected after the state constitution of 1855 was adopted. During the Civil War he served in the Quartermaster's Corps.
